OVERVIEW: The facilities at Le Moulin de Chazotte have been designed to be as as easy to use as possible for wheelchair users and disabled persons. Staircases inevitably make access to some parts of the site and buildings a little difficult. However, overall there are a number of features and one gite, Le Chai, which are "disabled friendly".

General site features: The long drive and paths around the site have rolled limestone chippings as a surface. This will allow a wheelchair, for example, to be pushed around although it would still need a little bit of huffing and puffing to get up the short slope from the car-park to the main house or the pool. Electric wheelchairs seem to cope well enough providing the battery is charged up! The perimeter of the swimming pool is paved with enough room to negotiate a wheelchair. Access to the millpond is over level ground and it is possible to manoeuvre a wheelchair right round the back of the mill to see the millraces, the Ship's bow and the terrace renovations at the rear.

LE CHAI

General: Le Chai is a gite for 2 to 4 persons with one family bedroom which is suitable for wheelchair-users or for the handicapped.
Access: The allocated car parking space is right outside the gite and about six metres from the entrance doorway. There is a gently sloping and slabbed ramp leading across the terrace to the front door. The front door has a low threshold although it is still necessary to tip a wheelchair back slightly to get over the cill.
Interior flooring: The interior floors of the gite are level-tiled throughout (no speeding or hand-brake turns please!)
Interior doorways: The interior doorways will all allow a standard wheelchair to pass through.
Kitchen: There are no disabled facilities in the kitchen. All the worktops and taps etc are at standard height.
Bathroom: The bathroom has a large roll-in shower with no step up to a shower tray. There are grab handles and a stool. The toilet has a raised pan and a grab handle alongside. The sink and vanity unit are all at standard height.
Light switches: All light switches and plug sockets have been positioned at a medium height for easier access.
Terrace: The terrace has a table and chairs with a parasol. The terrace gets the morning sun but by mid afternoon it is in shade and so is generally nice and cool. However, sun-lovers can still bask in the sun, if they want to, by moving out onto the grass of the mill bridge in front of the terrace.

We have been genuinely delighted to have had a good number of disabled folk and their partners staying in Le Chai during the past three years, sometimes for a whole month. What is particularly pleasing to us is that at least one of these couples have decided to return for a second year.
