France has a huge number of superb golf courses and many are in the well-publicised and exploited regions like Brittany, Normandy and the South-West around Biarritz. Here in the Poitou-Charentes region we have a wealth of golf courses and a wonderful climate which allows a very long playing season.
The Poitou-Charentes region of France is made up of three departments (Charente, Charente-Maritime and Deux Sevres). Le Moulin de Chazotte is situated 7 kilometres from Cognac on the border between Charente and Charente-Maritime. There are at least 10 well-appointed golf courses within easy driving distance and eight of these are 18 hole courses. Many of the golf courses have their own websites and some offer an English, Dutch or German translation.
Cognac Golf Club: Golf du Cognac is an 18 hole course with a par 72 over 6142 metres.

Saintes Golf Club: Just outside Saintes is Saintonge Golf Club which has 18 holes with a par of 68 over 4971 metres.

Angouleme Golf Club: Known as Golf Club de l'Hirondelle, this 18 hole course has a par of 70 over 5346 metres. It also has a 20 bay practice driving range.

Royan Golf Club: Traced through the pine forest of La Coubre, this remarkably beautiful course has its own natural sand dunes. It is an 18 hole course with a par 71 over 5924 metres.

La Rochelle Golf Club: This seaside course at La Rochelle is known as Golf de la Prée and has magnificent views of the Atlantic ocean. The course has 18 holes and a par 72 over 5931 metres

Montbron Golf Club: An 18 hole course with a par of 72 over 5994 metres. The first 9 holes of Golf de la Preze were built in 1990, the rest in 2004. The course, in the heart of this beautiful rolling countryside is challenging to golfers and is designed to extend and improve their game. It is set on a spectacular 65 hectare plot and built to an international standard. The course (par 72) is particularly challenging with its many natural obstacles, its lakes and its woodland. Furthermore, the climate is extremely agreeable - a mild winter and a summer with little rain ensure that the course is always in excellent condition, offering attractive fairways and fast, top-class greens. There is also a 30-bay driving range (some covered, some on open grass). In addition there is a large pitching green and separate putting green. Adjacent to the 9-hole golf course is a pitch and putt (par 3) which is ideal for beginners but can be used equally by experienced golfers to improve their technique.

Niort Golf Club: The Golf Club de Niort has an 18 hole course with a par of 72 over 5868 metres. It has 30 practice bays (10 sheltered) a putting green, a pitching green and a pitch-and-put 4 hole.

Mazieres en Gatine Golf Club: The is course is known as Golf du Petit Chene and has 18 holes with a par 72 over 6021 metres. It has 30 practice bays (12 sheltered), a putting and a pitching green plus a 6 hole pitch-and-put.

Isle d'Oleron Golf Club: A ninehole course bordering the atlantic beaches and with a par of 36 over 2908 metres. This course also has a 25 place practice area, a pitching green and a putting green as well as a six hole pitch 'n put.
Trousse-Chemise Golf Club: A nine hole golf course on the lovely Ile de Ré with a par 34 over 2365 metres.
